Shingles vaccination service
Shingles is a viral infection caused by the herpes zoster virus, leading to a painful rash and sometimes long-lasting nerve pain. Our shingles vaccination service helps reduce the risk of developing shingles and its complications, especially for those at higher risk.
-
This service is designed for adults aged 50 and over who would like to prevent shingles and those over 18 who are at increased risk of shingles.
-
During your consultation, our team will advise on whether the vaccine is suitable to you following a careful risk assessment.
However, the following patients cannot have the vaccine as part of our service:
Pregnant and breastfeeding patients
Anyone under 18
Patients with active shingles lesions
Patients who’ve had 2 or more shingles episodes in the past 12 months
Have received a previous shingles vaccine
There may also be other medical reasons why we may not be able to supply this vaccine - our team will clearly explain these to you after a risk assessment.
-
You’ll receive a quick injection in the upper arm after a brief medical review. The appointment usually takes 15–20 minutes, including a short observation period. Our team will also explain aftercare and possible side effects.
-
If you’re aged 50 or over and have a weakened immune system due to a medical condition or treatment, you may be eligible for this vaccine on the NHS.
Those aged 65 and above are also entitled to receive the shingles vaccine as part of the NHS vaccination programme.
-
£230 per dose and you will need 2 doses.
