Malaria vaccination service
Our malaria vaccination service helps protect you from serious mosquito-borne infection while you travel. It is recommended for anyone visiting destinations with a high risk of malaria.
-
This service is recommended for anyone travelling to a high-risk malaria area, particularly those at greater risk of infection, including:
Pregnant individuals
Young children
People aged over 65
Those with a weakened immune system
Individuals without a spleen
-
When you arrive, a trained clinician will carry out a short consultation to confirm the vaccine is suitable for you. They will ask about your medical history, allergies, and any current medications.
Once everything is confirmed, the vaccine will be given as a quick injection, usually into the upper arm.
-
Our pharmacists can provide advice if you’re travelling to a high-risk area for malaria.
You can also protect yourself by:
Taking the antimalarial medicine you’re prescribed
Using 50% DEET-based insect repellent on your skin
Sleeping under mosquito nets treated with insecticide
Wearing long-sleeved clothing and trousers to cover your arms and legs in the evening
For more information, please visit the NHS website.
-

-
Malaria can be fatal so it is important that it is treated quickly with antimalarial medicine.
Some people may require specialist care and treatment in a hospital.
