Migraine treatment service
Migraines are typically intense, throbbing headaches, often on one side of the head, that can last from 2 hours to 3 days. Our pharmacy offers treatment to help you manage and relieve symptoms.
Please note that you need a diagnosis to be offered treatment that isn’t available on the NHS.

The exact cause of migraines is still unknown, but you’re more likely to get them if a close family member also gets them.
Factors known to trigger migraines include:
Menstruation - before or during your period
Anxiety and depression
Stress and tiredness
Irregular eating patterns or skipping meals
Too much caffeine
Lack of exercise
-
Just before you have a migraine you may feel:
fatigue
food cravings or thirst
mood changes
a stiff neck
peeing more
You may also experience aura symptoms, such as:
problems with your sight, such as seeing zigzag lines or flashing lights
numbness or a tingling that feels like pins and needles
feeling dizzy
difficulty speaking
-
There are three types of migraines with different symptoms:
Migraine without aura - these have no warning signs
Migraine with aura - these have warning signs (e.g. seeing zigzag lines, numbness or tingling, feeling dizzy or difficulty speaking.)
Silent migraine - this is a migraine aura without a headache, you may see flashing lights.
